"I came to Mrs. W-B for tutoring because I heard very good recommendations from friends about her, and she met those expectations! I needed help with my writing and how to organize a paper. Carrie Waldron Brown improved my writing greatly by listening to what I had to say and writing down my thoughts, and she has really useful organizational support tools, too. Also, Mrs. W-B goes out of her way to help me with what I need help with from learning the material assigned in class to helping me break down a text when I need to read it more deeply. Mrs. W-B has helped me to understand the writing process. She gives me a piece of paper with an outline of how to write a paragraph and together we transfer my thoughts into a well-written paragraph. Now, I do not need her by my side to write a good paragraph because I use the tools she taught me and use that to write stronger essays.  Also and importantly, Mrs. W-B does not just write your paper for you like other tutors. She takes into account what you need help with and helps you improve that skill you need help with, like breaking down the text or the idea of a paper and helping you organize your thoughts into a well-written piece. I like that Mrs. W-B never cancels on me and is always easy to make an appointment. She always can squeeze me in even if she is busy and works around my schedule. I would recommend Mrs. W-B to anyone who needs to improve a subject/skill in school because she can help all students because she works with every child in their own way to make them a better student while making learning fun!"

She has carefully curated a set of brainstorming exercises that are designed to draw out each student’s unique flavor. She then works with students to excavate the nuggets that can be transformed into essay writing gold. She has helped each of my sons tell his unique story, and I have booked her for our third kid this summer.

Carrie Waldron-Brown was absolutely phenomenal in working with my son. He had stalled on writing a common app essay and spent a few months spinning his (mental) wheels. We attended a public session where she spoke and then he did a 1:1 session with her at a later date. She succeeded where I as a parent had failed- she broke through his writer’s block and helped him brainstorm and outline a fantastic and creative essay for his common app. He’s already gotten into many great schools, and I think that’s in part because of his essay. In one of my child’s college acceptance letters, an admissions counselor called out details from the essay in a post-script note to my child.
If I had to do anything over again, it would have been to hire her for more sessions and to start earlier with her. She was remarkable and I’m grateful for my son to have been able to work with her. I loved that she didn’t write the essay for my son, but she guided him through a process where he was able to identify his core values and what he wanted to communicate to his readers- he felt like the essay was 100% his and 100% in his voice. What amazed me the most was that after meeting with her, he was fired up to write and actually sat down the next day and wrote out his essay (which he then edited over the next few weeks). I had no idea what an impact she could make, but she knows from working this population about how to draw our their best ideas and inspire incredible work.
